Vocational assessments for adults

Gain a clearer understanding of your strengths, interests and support needs so you can make informed decisions about what comes next.

Understand your strengths. Create a plan for your future.

Not sure what comes next?

Whether you’re exploring employment, study, training, volunteering or greater independence, a vocational assessment can help you identify opportunities, understand your support needs and make informed decisions about your future.

You’ll receive practical recommendations and a personalised plan to help you move forward with confidence.

Is a vocational assessment right for me?

A vocational assessment may help if you:

  • Want to explore employment opportunities
  • Are unsure what type of work or study is right for you
  • Need support identifying your strengths and abilities
  • Want a clearer understanding of your support needs
  • Are planning for greater independence and participation
  • Need recommendations to support future planning or NDIS goals.

What happens during the assessment?

Your assessor takes the time to understand you as a whole person, not just your employment goals.

Together, we’ll explore:

  • Your strengths, interests and skills
  • Previous work, learning and life experiences
  • Your aspirations and future goals
  • The supports and strategies that help you succeed
  • Potential barriers to participation and how to address them
  • The environments and opportunities that best suit your needs
  • Pathways to employment, study, training, volunteering and community involvement.

With your consent, we may also gather information from your support network to help build a complete picture of your strengths and support needs.

What you’ll receive

At the end of the assessment, you’ll receive a personalised vocational assessment report designed to support your future learning.

Your report includes:

  • A strengths-based profile of your skills and capabilities
  • Insights into the supports and strategies that can help you succeed
  • Recommendations aligned with your goals and interests
  • Potential pathways for employment, study, training, volunteering or community participation
  • Practical next steps to support future planning.

This report can be shared with your support network, providers and educators to help everyone work towards the same goals and support your journey into adulthood.

Build confidence about what’s next

When you understand your strengths, support needs and opportunities, it’s easier to make confident decisions about your future.

A vocational assessment provides practical insights and recommendations that help you explore possibilities, identify achievable goals and take meaningful steps towards employment, further education, volunteering or greater independence.

Instead of wondering what comes next, you’ll have a clearer direction and a plan that’s built around you.

Frequently asked questions

Is a vocational assessment right for me?

A vocational assessment can help if you’re unsure about your next step and want to better understand your strengths, support needs and future opportunities. Whether you’re interested in employment, study, training, volunteering or increasing your independence, a vocational assessment can help you make informed decisions about your future.

I don’t know what type of work I’d be good at. Can a vocational assessment help?

Yes. A vocational assessment explores your strengths, interests, skills and support needs to identify opportunities that may suit you. It can help uncover pathways you may not have previously considered and provide practical recommendations for moving forward.

Can a vocational assessment help me prepare for employment?

Yes. A vocational assessment can help identify your strengths, workplace support needs and potential employment pathways. It provides recommendations that can support future employment goals and workplace success.

Can a vocational assessment help with study, training or volunteering?

Absolutely. A vocational assessment is not just about employment. It can help identify pathways to further education, training, volunteering and other meaningful opportunities that align with your goals and interests.

What makes Everyday Independence’s vocational assessment different?

Our vocational assessment is a comprehensive assessment that explores much more than job options. We take time to understand your strengths, interests, support needs, goals and the environments where you’re most likely to succeed.

The result is a detailed personalised report that provides practical recommendations and pathways for employment, education, training, volunteering and community participation.

How long does it take?

Our vocational assessment takes up to 15 hours to complete. It includes your assessment, time for the assessor to write your report, and a counselling session.

Why is the assessment so comprehensive?

Making decisions about your future is important. We believe these decisions should be based on a thorough understanding of your strengths, support needs and aspirations.

Our assessment gathers information from a range of sources, including discussions with you and, where appropriate, your support network. This allows us to provide recommendations that are meaningful, realistic and tailored to you.

Who completes the assessment?

Your assessment is delivered by a vocational assessor who can be a degree qualified psychologist, occupational therapist or counsellor.

Who can receive a vocational assessment?

Our vocational assessment is available to people aged from 15 – 65 years.

How is the vocational assessment delivered?

We deliver in person as it allows your vocational assessor to gather information by observing you in real-world environments.

An online assessment or a combination of in person and online delivery may be appropriate if:

  • there is no practitioner available locally
  • you prefer telehealth
  • travel or location makes in person appointments difficult
  • parts of the assessment are suitable for online delivery.

We’ll work with you to identify the most approach based on your location, goals, preferences, and information needed.

What funding can be used?

For a vocational assessment you need either Finding and Keeping a Job (Employment Related Assessment, Counselling and Advice) or Improved Daily Living Funding (Assessment, Recommendation, Therapy or Training).

What will I receive at the end?

You’ll receive a personalised vocational report that brings everything together. Your strengths, real-world skills, interests, and preferences, along with the environments and work conditions where you’re most likely to succeed.

It outlines potential job options, study pathways, and clear recommendations for job development, workplace supports, and next steps.

You can share your report with your support team to guide planning, align everyone around your goals, and take the next step toward meaningful employment.

What is the cancellation policy for vocational assessment sessions?

We understand that plans can change. To keep things fair and make sure appointments are available for others, we ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your vocational assessment session.

Cancellations made within 48 hours may be treated as a short notice cancellation.

What areas do you deliver vocational assessments?

We provide our vocational assessments to people living across VIC, NSW, QLD, SA, ACT, WA and TAS.

What other employment services do you provide?

Our employment services include an employment program, psychosocial recovery coaching and support to help you access employment funding.

Our therapies

We offer a range of employment supports and therapy services designed to support adults living with disability to build skills, grow confidence, and achieve positive change.
