Key workers positively changing children and families’ lives

Everyday Independence early childhood key workers are degree-qualified teachers, educators, social workers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists who bring their skills and passion to support children and families.

As a key worker, you’ll work in teams with allied health practitioners and habit coaches. You’ll be supported to harness your empathy and expertise in childhood development to become a future-fit key worker, practising in the social model.

Our key workers can opt-in to boost their base salary, participate in our social initiative program, all while tapping into an array of learning and support opportunities.

What do our key workers do?

Our early childhood key workers use their knowledge and the skills of the team to help families meet their child’s needs.

As social model key workers, they work out in the community, the Everyday Way, with children aged up to nine years.

A transdisciplinary team approach, use of evidence-based tools and habit coaches all combine to enable clinical growth and impactful outcomes for the people they support.

Common questions about the early childhood key worker role

Why are some key worker appointments scheduled before and after school?

Children spend much of their day at school, kindergarten or childcare. Working with families before and after school allows early childhood key workers to support children during the routines, activities and environments that are most important to them.

These appointment times create opportunities to partner with families when everyday life is happening, helping them build skills, confidence and strategies that can be embedded into daily routines. This approach supports meaningful outcomes and reflects how children learn and participate in the real world.

What does a key worker do at Everyday Independence?

You’ll be a main point of contact for children aged 0–8 and their families. You’ll get to know what matters to each family, work towards their child’s goals in everyday settings, and collaborate with therapists, educators and others involved in their life. Sessions may take place at home, at childcare or school, or in the communit

Do I need to be an allied health practitioner to apply?

No. The role is open to qualified occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech pathologists and educators with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood Teaching or Special Education. You’ll also need at least three years’ experience working with children aged 0–8 and their families, including children with disability. The role description lists the required registration and checks for each discipline.

Can I work part time, and what support will I have?

Yes. The role is advertised as full time or part time at four days per week. You’ll have control over your calendar, while being available for before or after school appointments, when families most often request support. You’ll also have access to a Team Leader, Therapy Mentor,  colleagues, and clinical, operational and administrative support
