There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to supporting people with therapy services and what works for one person, may not work for another person with the same disability.
Our therapists listen to you and your support network to understand what’s working for you, what isn’t, and what a vision of success looks like.
Knowing what you enjoy doing, your interests, and your daily routine is a key part of developing a tailored therapy plan which will support you to achieve what is really important to you.
Some examples of how we provide tailored, personalised support to help people reach their goals include:
- Occupational Therapist Jessica created a picture book to help a child feel less anxious about upcoming swimming lessons. Pictures of the pool, activities they would do in the water, and a photo of the swimming instructor helped the child know what to expect before their first lesson.
- Physiotherapist Prakash purchased boxing gloves and pads for his client through our Everyday Magic Program so they can build their upper body strength in a safe and fun way, with help from their support worker.
- To support a primary school-aged child and AFL fan to establish a morning routine for school, occupational therapist Marny worked together with the child’s parents to create a visual board with reminders of what the child needs to do to get ready for school. The board looks like a football field, the reminders are in various positions players occupy on field, and the child’s parents can coach him through the routine.
- Occupational Therapist Harley attended a client’s first photography class so he could support them to build their confidence to engage and interact with other people in the class and the teacher.
These are just some examples of how we tailor the support we provide to our clients so they can increase their independence and live a good everyday life.
