When Will first began working with the Everyday Independence team, he was attending school for around two hours each day and spending most of that time outside the classroom with support from an Educational Support Officer.
One of Will’s goals was to feel comfortable spending time inside the classroom and joining in with learning activities. Will’s Behaviour Support Practitioner, Nikesha, worked closely with Will and his family to understand his interests, discovering that he loves Pokémon.
To help support Will’s engagement in the classroom, Nikesha purchased some books through our Everyday Magic imitative. The books have helped make reading time something Will could connect with and enjoy, using interests that are meaningful to him.
Over time, with support from his family, school team and therapy team, Will has begun spending time inside the classroom and participating in learning activities. He continues to work towards gradually increasing his time at school in ways that feel safe and manageable for him.
Reflecting on Will’s progress, Nikesha shared how encouraging it has been to see him building confidence and working towards his goals, step by step.
The Everyday Magic program is our social initiative which enables a therapist to purchase items that can positively impact a person’s life.
Thank you Will for sharing your story.
