Navigating new social or professional environments can be challenging and requires a greater level of independence.

Whether you’re looking to start a job, enhance your social interactions or gain confidence in everyday settings, improving social and communication skills, and daily living tasks such as personal care and developing and following routines, can be key to achieving these goals.

At Everyday Independence, developmental educators are degree qualified practitioners serve as your primary therapist, leading and coordinating your therapy journey. They provide skill building therapy, organise services from other allied health practitioners and link you to other supports like education, mental health, welfare, and employment services.

This service is currently offered by the Central AdelaideSouthern Adelaide and Bayside therapy hubs.

How a Developmental Educator Supports You

Developmental educators will:

  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of strengths and areas for development.
  • Identify and remove environmental barriers that may impact progress.
  • Provide strategies to improve communication skills and interact comfortably with others in a workplace setting or in everyday social situations.
  • Build capacity of self-care and daily living skills to enhance independence.
  • Design supports to achieve employment goals with skills development and coaching.
  • Provide training to improve communication skills needed for job interviews and to collaborate with colleagues and superiors.
