From Guinea Pigs to Goats: A Joy‑Filled Day for Our Little Farmers

Inner Eastern Melbourne Positive Change Push: Little Farmers Fun Day!

On Saturday, 17 January, our Inner Eastern Melbourne hub team welcomed a group of participants to the Collingwood Children’s Farm for our Little Farmers Fun day – a morning filled with fresh air, curiosity, and plenty of fun.

From the moment they arrived, the kids immersed themselves in farm life, wandering through paddocks and meeting the animals who call the farm home. They enjoyed close up encounters with chooks, cows, sheep, horses, and goats, with  each interaction sparking excitement, questions, and moments of genuine connection.

A standout experience was a special Guinea pig session with one of the farmers. With a muddle of Guinea pigs and a bucket brimming with fresh greens, the group enjoyed an intimate meet‑and‑greet where the kids could feed, pat, and observe the animals up close. As they interacted, the group learned about the different breeds, ages, and quirky personalities of these gentle little creatures. The joy on their faces said it all.

Seeing the children engage with the local community and enjoying time with the animals was truly special.

This outing is one of many initiatives made possible through the Positive Change Push, which empowers Everyday Independence teams across Australia to design and lead grassroots projects that champion inclusion and shift perceptions of disability. These experiences not only build confidence and connection but also strengthen the sense of belonging within local communities.

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful Inner Eastern Melbourne change makers for helping us harvest creativity, collaboration, and inclusion across our communities. Your energy and ideas continue to yield meaningful, lasting change.
